Three days to takeoff

With only a weekend standing between me and my trip, I thought I’d share my itinerary with you.

The destinations that I am heading to include four countries:

  • Thailand
I will be flying into Bangkok on June the 25th. From there I’ll take day-trips to Kanchanaburi and Ayutthaya, and take an overnight train to Chiang Mai. In early July, I’ll head back south to spend a little time in Lampang and Sukhothai before returning north to spend some time in Chiang Rai.
  • Laos
From Thailand, I will take a two-day slow boat down the Mekong River to Luang Prabang, stopping in Pakbeng along the way.
  • Vietnam
On July 12, I will fly from Luang Prabang to Hanoi. I plan to stay there a few days before heading to one of the spots I am most excited to see: Ninh Binh. I’ll spend some time biking through the stunning landscapes there before taking an overnight train further south to Phong Nha.
  • Cambodia
Finally, I will fly into Siem Reap on July 20 and meet my lovely friend Caitlin there when she arrives the next morning. We will remain based in Siem Reap until we head home on the 27th, but until then, we will spend plenty of time at Angkor Archaeological Park and take a couple of day-trips to nearby villages and sites.

I have prepared a much more detailed itinerary for personal use, in which I have every morning, afternoon, and evening of my journey scheduled. However, I am ready to play this trip by ear and allow for some changes to my plan; if I meet people who I’d like to explore with, if I need an afternoon off, or if I’m feeling “templed-out,” I will certainly make a change. The flights and long train journeys that I have scheduled will keep my trip on track!

I’ve got my immunizations, my malaria pills, my travel backpack, my visas, my international phone plan…

Now all that remains is to pack my bag and hop on a plane!

I finally caught up with your blog, and what fascinates me the most: though I left almost 24h later, I’ll still arrived in Europe on the 25th, travel sciences – just joking.
